Tame the Clothing Clutter with this simple trick!

December 28, 2015 By Jenae Leave a Comment

Turn your hangers backwards to tame clothing clutter

I don’t know about you, but after Christmas is over I always seem to just about go crazy with all the clutter.  I normally have all my decorations put away on December 26th or 27th…and I feel like I spend hours upon hours decluttering and attempting to get rid of as much as I possibly can!

I found a simple trick for taming the clothing clutter on RayandJen.com (via Apartment Therapy) that I’m hoping will work wonders.  I myself am especially prone to clothes hoarding of mammoth proportions.  I can’t help it, this girl loves cute clothes..or more recently comfy clothes.

The trick is this:  Turn all the hangers in your closet backwards (ideally January 1st, but anytime will do).  Whenever you wear a piece of clothing, turn the hanger back to normal.  After a few months (or even a year), donate all the clothing on hangers that still haven’t been turned back to normal.

I did this today and am excited to track my progress.  I’m scheduling my first purge at the end of March…just in time for spring!

And yes, I totally took pictures of my closet.  Thankfully you can’t see the mess of shoes below these hanging clothes.  One step at a time, right?  🙂

What is your #1 tip for clothing organization?
